Royal Government Postpones Meeting Between PM and Journalists to Next Year

PHNOM PENH: The Royal Government of Cambodia has postponed the meeting between Prime Minister Hun Sen and journalists, which was scheduled to take place today, to next year. This is the second time this meeting has been postponed since 2021.

In a letter dated Tuesday, 11 January 2022, the Office of the Council of Ministers decided to postpone the meeting scheduled for 14 January 2022, to next year, without specifying the exact reason. However, following last year's postponement, it was likely due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although no meeting with journalists is set to take place this year, Prime Minister Hun Sen still issued a congratulatory message to all national and international journalists for the occasion of the 6th Meeting Between the Head of the Royal Government of Cambodia and Cambodian Journalists. In his message, he praised all journalists for their hard work in broadcasting news, and in particular, the coverage of the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination campaign, which helped to control the Covid-19 outbreak in the community.

He wrote urging all journalists to continue working hard to maintain peace, political stability, security and social order by increasing their partnership with the Royal Government to continue to fight inactivity, irregularities, corruption and injustice in Cambodia society, and to build a clean and transparent society in Cambodia by continuing to participate in the fight against false information in both national and international frameworks, and continuing to destroy opportunists who take refuge under the label of the press.

The annual meeting between the head of the Royal Government of Cambodia and Cambodian journalists was organized to increase solidarity and strengthen the partnership between the Royal Government of Cambodia and all media institutions. This is the second year that the Royal Government has decided to postpone this meeting due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
